Teacher Reviews

Cookstown Central Public School was delighted to have Gwen visit and share her knowledge and expertise about good character traits and the importance of being eco-friendly.  During all three presentations, for grades one, two, and three, the students were engaged in critical thinking skills involving fantasy and reality with The Blue Bottle along with learning some important techniques involved in writing and illustrating.  The students were left with much to reflect upon and were given ideas to implement back in their classroom and in the community.  Many students were excited to purchase both The Blue Bottle and Gwen’s other book, Aesop’s Fables.  During the presentation, Gwen was able to announce that her third book is being published and we will be inviting her back next school year to share this accomplishment with us and to revisit the connections that were made this year.  Thank-you, Gwen.

We hosted Gwen at Shanty Bay PS during Earth week this year! Her presentation was the embodiment of environmental concern and respect! The children learned about Rainforest animals and numerous plants and took away artistic lessons to enrich their own love for nature. Her enthusiasm towards keeping our world green was contagious and the children loved being able to take home a signed copy of their favourite book from her presentation! It was a wonderful way to combine literacy, art and environmental studies in my Library!

We were extremely happy to have Gwen visit our library this summer! Gwen read from her new book, “A Wish for Haidan” and discussed issues surrounding environmental protection with the kids. The children were moved by her story and were fully engaged in the following conversation. Gwen’s passion for the environment truly inspired our group to think more about just how connected we are with the environment and just how important it is to preserve it. Thanks Gwen!

Our kids had a great time and the teachers enjoyed the visit too! I really liked how you shared the tricks of the trade with the students Gwen and I do think you are fabulous at the art of storytelling!
